AIG Women’s British Open: Notable female players not to play this weekend at Muirfield, including the world No. 1

With so much history at stake this weekend at Muirfield, you may have missed out on the AIG Women’s British Open a bit more. Not to mention the fact that this is the 2022 deadline.

It’s a long wait until the Chevron Championships next April.

World number one Jin Young-koo tops the list, along with defending champion Anna Nordqvist, Lexi Thompson and a host of other players.

This is the first time that female professionals have competed at Muirfield, one of the most popular clubs in the world. A total of 65 players cut 3 players.

The three-time main winner In Gee Chun walks the field at 8 lower.

This marked the first cut lost in a major to Jin Young Ko since the 2018 AIG Women’s British Open. Ko fired 76-71 to finish fifth in the tournament, with three boests in the last four holes.

After suffering a major heartache at the KPMG Women’s, Lexi Thompson skipped the Amundi Evian Championship two weeks ago. At Muirfield, Thompson stunned the last three holes on the way to a 77 close. She made only two over the course of two rounds and finished at 10.

The 2021 FA Women’s Open champion entered the week saying she didn’t feel any pressure. I simply wanted to enjoy the moment. Scoring just three birds over the course of two rounds to finish 4 for the championship was definitely not what she had in mind.

There is still plenty to look forward to for Nordqvist, who will soon be having a wedding in Scotland, having been postponed twice due to the pandemic.

Laura Davis (14 years old)

Mrs. Laura Davis has competed in the British Ladies Open with a record 42 times. The 58-year-old closed in with a shock ten on Friday 18 to hit 81 and finish 14 times in the tournament.

Davis has been exempted from AIG until age 60, which will occur in 2024 when the championship returns to the old track.

The shape that saw Ayaka Furue close with a magic number 62 to win her first LPGA title five days ago at the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open. The Japanese rookie started out in 18th place to finish in 4th place.

The struggle continues for 2020 AIG Women’s British Open champion Sofia Popov, who has had no success since the 2022 Chevron Championships. Popov took 37 hits in the first round and had a double bob in the middle of the round on Friday. fired 75-71.

After an emotional comeback last week at the Scottish Open, Patti Tavatanakit couldn’t keep up at Muirfield. Two straight runs of 75 left her out of the streak. The 2021 Chevron champion told the media as she cried last week that she’s been struggling on the golf course and in her personal life lately, and it has taken an emotional toll.

It was a whirlwind two weeks for Sophia Schubert, who finished her second career best at Amondi Evian and then flew back to the US for a sponsor commitment at the PGA Tour stop in Detroit (Schubert didn’t make the field at the Scottish Open).

Schubert scored two and three in rounds 79-72. Muirfield marked her third major start as a professional.

Ingrid Lindelbad (8 years old)

After competing over the weekend in the US Women’s Open, Swedish amateur Ingrid Lindblad experienced a quieter British Championship. Lindblad entered the field via Monday’s playoff event in North Berwick. The LSU player shot 74-76 to miss the cut for the third time in this tournament.
