Asian Elite Boxing Championship: Lovlina, Alfia and Meenakshi qualify for the finals

Five Indian boxers will participate in the semi-finals on Thursday.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohen, 2022 World Championships bronze medalist Parvin along with competition newcomers Alvia Pathan and Meenakshi, put on power-packed displays to secure their place in the 2022 AFC Elite Asian Football Championship finals in Amman, Jordan on Wednesday .

Victory Command

Lovlina (75 kg) faced South Korea’s Seong Soyeon in the semi-final match. From the start, Lovlina effectively used her clever techniques and strategies to take advantage of her opponent to snatch a 5:0 win by unanimous decision.
During the three rounds, the Assam-born boxer showed her formidable strength and superior technical skills to beat the South Korean and gave her no chance of getting back in the game.
Lovlina, who has two bronze medals at the Asian Championships to her name, took home the silver at this edition, confirming her best-ever performance in the competition.

Lovlina, Alfia Pathan (81kg), Parvin (63kg) and Meenakshi (52kg) won equally in their semi-final wins as they dominated their matches in wins 5:0 by unanimous decision.

Similar to her dominance in the previous match, Parvin led her semi-final match against Uranbileg Shinetsetseg of Mongolia, and the 2019 South Asian Games champion confirmed her spot in the final with a strong and confident performance.

Through the rise of the millennium

Alfiya was facing 2016 world champion Lazat Konjibaeva, who has now been defeated twice this year. The 2021 World Youth Boxing Champion surprised Kazakhstan at home in the 2022 Elorda Cup final to secure the gold medal in her first international participation.
On the other hand, the 2021 Asian Championship bronze medalist Meenakshi faced Mongolia Lotsaikan Altantsitseg, and the Rohtak-born boxer didn’t have to break a sweat in her comfortable win.

The four boxers will do everything in their power to bring gold to the country as 2021 Asian silver medalist Lovlina will face Rosmetova Sukhba, the Millennium will compete with Jordan’s Islam Hosseini while Meenakshi and Parveen will take the ring against Japanese duo Kinoshita Rinka and Keito Mai respectively in the final.

Other contestants in the semi-finals

In the other semi-finals, Ankushita Boro (66kg) and Preity (57kg) were knocked out after losing to Uzbekistan’s Khamidova Navbakhor by 1:4 and 2020 Japanese gold medalist Eri Sina by 0:5, respectively. Both boxers earned the bronze medal for their outstanding efforts throughout the tournament.

India’s total of 12 medals in this year’s edition of the prestigious tournament is the third highest among all the competing nations.
Five Indian boxers will compete in the semi-finals, including six-time Asian medalist Shiva Thapa (63.5 kg) and two-time Commonwealth bronze medalist Muhammad Husamuddin (57 kg).
The other male boxers in the fight will be Narinder (92+kg), Sumit (75kg), and Govind Kumar Sahani (48kg).
The competition witnessed the participation of 267 boxers from 27 of the best boxing countries.
The final match of the women’s category will be held on Friday and the men’s category on Saturday.
