Cal Poly 12 women’s soccer team signs national letters of intent – Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA — Two back-to-back Big West regular-season champion Cal Poly women’s soccer has added more depth and talent to its program, signing 12 student-athletes to national letters of intent.

The Mustangs scheduled for the 2023 season will be joined by forwards Anna Babinski (Albuquerque, NM), Ella Economos (Alamo, CA), Ali Evans (Samamish, Washington), Annika Smith (Scottsdale, Arizona), Jesse DeFazio (L. Dorado Hills, CA) and Leah Solzberg (San Ramon, CA), quarterbacks Sofia Mons (El Dorado Hills, CA), Courtney Wagner (Rocklin, CA) and Cassia Wolf (Santa Barbara, CA), defenders Taisy Bevin (Paso Robles, CA), Billy Bracha (Clovis, CA) and Sienna Urzua (Santa Barbara, CA).

“We are very excited about this year’s enlistment class,” said team coach Alex Crozier. “We are adding top talent across the field and expect to see an immediate impact on our programme. All of these athletes bring high football IQs, great athleticism and personality. We look forward to watching them grow on the field and in the class.”

Babinski, who has scored 41 goals and 14 assists this season, led the Albuquerque Academy to the NMAA 4A state’s semifinals.

Billy Bracha (D/F) Buchanan HS

Bears Defensive Player of the Year in 2020-21, Bracha Buchanan helped claim the Tri-River Athletic Conference title and the CIF Division I Central Championship as a junior. Her team also finished second in the CIF NorCal Regional Division 1 regional qualifiers.

An employee of the California Scholarship Foundation and current ASB president for Buchanan High, Bracha served as the Bears’ sophomore team captain in 2021 and earned an All-TRAC first team honor. A member of Clovis Crossfire SC, Bracha intends to major in business at Cal Poly.

Jaycee DeFazio (F) Saint Francis HS

DeFazio was named to the first team twice in the entire league for the Troubadours, leading the Delta League in goals in 2021 and points in 2022 to earn the Offensive MVP honors and clinch back-to-back Delta League titles.

DeFazio helped Davis Legacy SC reach the last 16 of the ECNL Playoffs in 2021 and capture the NW Bay Division Championship. She also earned a spot in the ECNL’s Top 11 National Playoffs for 2021. Her older sister, Janae DeFazio, is a senior on the University of California women’s soccer team.

As a team captain last season, he led the Economos Monte Vista to an undefeated (11-0-2) East Bay League and Ebal team record.

Economos, who is also a sprinter on the Monte Vista track team, helped Mustang SC qualify for the 2022 FIFA Champions League Qualifiers, and is an active member of the ASB at her school.

Ali Evans (F) Skyline HS

A three-year team captain for Eastside FC, Evans earned first-team honors for the ECNL All-Conference in 2021 and second-team honors last season.

Evans, the Skyline Academy record holder for the most assists in a season, led the Spartans to the WIAA 4A State semifinals in 2021 and helped Skyline, the top seed in the state playoffs, reach a record 17-0-1 (12) – 0-0 at KingCo) so far this season. Honored student and DECA member, Evans, who intends to major in business, owns the second All-KingCo team.

Sophia Monis (MF) Oak Ridge HS

Mons, who plans to major in public health, earned an All-Sierra Foothill League first team honor as a rookie while helping the Trojans win the CIF NorCal Division I Championship and CIF Sac-Joaquin Section I, along with former teammate and current Cal. . Poly Standard Emily Lieber.

A member of the U.S. national youth futsal team, Munis has been involved in player development programs and the Olympics at the regional level, and served as team captain (2017-22) for Oak Ridge and San Juan. Selected in the 2021-22 ECNL TopDrawerSoccer Best XI Championship.

Mons, an honors student, has received numerous state and regional club-level awards.

Named the first All-Area All-Area All-Around Player of the Year award, Smith has never lost a West Valley League game during her career and led Notre Dame Prep to an AIA 4A State Championship game this past season.

Smith, who will lead the Saints this winter as a senior, plays for the Utah Royals FC-Arizona. Smith, named to the Dean of Notre Dame’s list, plans to major in communications at Cal Poly.

Leah Solzberg (F) California HS

The Sulzberg star, soon-to-be with a three-year college champ at San Ramon High, starred at the front for the Grizzlies this past season as they marched to the CIF North Coast Division I title match and the semifinals of the CIF NorCal Division IV regional playoffs. .

As a member of the Norcal State Premier Player Development Program, Solzberg has played for FC San Ramon for over a decade and has received invitations to camp for the Regional Olympic Development Program in the past two years. Intend to major in kinesiology at Cal Poly.

Sienna Orzoa (D) Bishop Diego HS

Urzua, a four-sport athlete at Bishop Diego High, took home his first All-CIF and All-Tri-Valley League title as a rookie while helping the Cardinals win the CIF Southern Division’s Seventh Division title.

Urzua, who plays for Eagles SC, lifted the championship trophy with Team West Region in the U.S. Youth Olympic Development Program in 2021. She participated in the 2022 ECNL National Selection Games and also led the Bishop Diego volleyball team to the CIF-SS Division 7 title. Last fall, the Division I Championship since 1979. Her sister, Alina, is a student on the Stetson beach volleyball team.

Wolfe, captain of the Santa Barbara High and Eagles SC team, was named to the ECNL Southwest All-Conference first team for two consecutive years (2021-22).

Wolf, who intends to major in kinesiology at Cal Poly, won the Merkur Cup with her club’s FFC Wacker team during her time in Germany and played at the ECNL San Diego National Selection Games last year.
