Northern Illinois in Western Michigan
Wednesday, November 9 | 7 pm | Spino
Point Spread: Western Michigan -1
FPI Pick: Western Michigan 53.2%
Northern Illinois (2-7, 1-4). Despite their poor record, the Huskies are hard to stop when they’re on the offensive, ranking in the top three among MAC teams at 389 yards per game and over 30 points each time. NIU runs the ball well, averaging the league’s second most dash yards per game (197.3) and averaging the highest YPC in the conference at 4.9. The team allowed MAC-low 9 bags.
Western Michigan (3-6, 2-3). Although NIU is good in attack, the Broncos is on defense, allowing under 27 shadows per game, is the second best position on the MAC, and is fourth in overall defense with a top 5 rating when defending both running and passing. . WMU allows less than 4 yards per load on the ground.
Buffalo in central Michigan
Wednesday, November 9 | 7 pm | ESPN2
Point spread: equal
FPI Pick: Buffalo 53.9%
Buffalo (5-4, 4-1). The Bulls come out of their only loss in a MAC play, against Ohio, and tied with the Bobcats and Bowling Green for the lead in the Eastern Division. Rutgers Cole Snyder leads the offense, scoring just under 59% of his passes for 2,145 yards and 14 touchdowns with 6 interceptions, including 6 points in his last three games. Buffalo has also scored touchdowns on defense in three of his last four games.
Central Michigan (3-6, 2-3). If there’s ever a time this team plays well, it’s November, as they scored 11-1 that month while Jim McElwain was coach. CMU has played quarterbacks this season, and the combination of Daniel Richardson and Gacy Powers has over 2,200 yards. Lew Nichols has 561 rushing yards with an average of 6.4 ypc and six touchdowns.
Kent State at Bowling Green
Wednesday, November 9 | 7 pm | CBSSN
Point spread: Kent State -2.5
FPI selection: Kent State 59.8%
Kent State (3-6, 2-3). The Flashes were only 1-3 in October after playing a hard-nosed roster that included Washington, Oklahoma and Georgia, even though they played Bulldogs near the road. Kent State is at 2-3 in the MAC game, but two of those losses are by one point, and the team is second in the conference with 6.1 yards per game and 29.6 points per game.
Bowling Green (5-4, 4-1). This is by far Scot Loeffler’s best team four years into his tenure, in a position to win this division, and a win here would help keep him in the race alongside Ohio and Buffalo with two games remaining on the schedule. However, this offense could get more aggressive, scoring just 20.4 points per game in the conference.
