OAR may be music’s biggest and best kept secret. Platinum-certified Rockville, MD has quietly sold Madison Square Garden twice, filled the Red Rocks runway dozens of times, earned platinum and gold plates, lit up a New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square, and built one of the world’s most committed fan bases. The group — Mark Robert [lead vocals, guitar]Richard On [lead guitar, backing vocals]Chris Colos [drums]Bing Gershman [bass]and Jerry Debizzo [saxophone, guitar, backing vocals] Accompanied by Mikel Paris [keys, backing vocals, percussion]and John Lampley [trumpet, backing vocals]In our 25 years together by strengthening this special bond with audiences everywhere.
The implications of this secret have become downright legendary over the years since their first performance on a middle school talent show. After tens of thousands of hours, they first sold Madison Square Garden in 2006 only to repeat the feat the following year. Along the way, two singles – “Love and Memories” and “Peace” – and the live album Any Time Now took gold with “Shattered” taking platinum status. The 2011 anthem “Paradise” emerged as their most successful song on the West Coast. 2019 saw The Mighty appear for the third time in a row among the group’s top 15 appearances on the Billboard Top 200. The media curiosity has sparked thought-provoking articles by everyone from the New York Times to Sports Illustrated and a performance on The Today Show, The Tonight Show, Live With Kelly & Ryan, Special Olympics Opening Ceremony, ESPYS, and more. They did everything on their own terms.
In addition to immersion in their own community, the Department of Academic Research also gives back. The band’s Heard The World Fund supports youth, education, and the underprivileged in the United States, collecting and contributing millions for the benefit of various schools, students, and organizations. They have created a scholarship at their university, Ohio State University, and offer scholarships to veterans and Gold Star families via Folds of Honor. The Concert of Dreams, which took place at the famous Bacon Theater in New York City, raised $1 million for the Garden of Dreams. Additionally, the band has gone to bat for causes, including Connor Cure, to stand up to childhood cancer, and to raise and donate more than $100,000.
