McDonald’s has unveiled this year’s Christmas ad that’s ready for the festive season—and it definitely packs an emotional punch. The ad, titled The List, focuses on young boy Alfie who is drifting a bit in creating his list for Santa.

Together with his mother, who drifts off making sure she has finished all her holiday preparations, the boy ends up creating a huge list focused on big, expensive, and flashy gifts. However, after visiting their local McDonald’s on Christmas Eve, both are reminded that the little things, like time spent with their loving family, are most important.

The ad was created by Tom Hooper, director of the Academy Award-winning movie The King’s Speech, and is set on a Becky Hill show of Yazoo’s classic “Only You.” It was first released on McDonald’s social media at midnight on Thursday (November 10).

It will be watched by moviegoers for the first time before Black Panther shows on Friday (November 11) and will be televised during I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here on ITV on Sunday (November 13). McDonald’s past Christmas ads are known for their enthusiastic and emotional stories that capture the hearts of viewers.

The 2021 iteration, powered by a festive Maple track, tells the story of Matilda, who re-acquaints with an old childhood toy, Iggy, after being reminded of it during a visit to a local McDonald’s. The new festive ad is the start of the McDonald’s Reindeer Ready campaign, which was first introduced in 2020.

The Christmas alternative menu is the focus this year, and starting November 14, there will be six unique opportunities to enhance preparation for the Christmas season through teamwork, as well as family and friends.
