Sitting with a record 84-66 heading into the weekend, the Blue Jays remain just one game over the Rays for the top spot in the Wild Card in the MLS. Losers in the last two games including a 10-5 loss to Tampa Bay yesterday, Toronto will be looking to get back on track with RHP Mitch White on the hill, who is 1-6 overall with a 5.05 ERA.

For the great victory on Thursday, the Rays are one step closer to being with the Blue Jays if they can take care of the business later in the evening. With their focus on the prize in the last leg of regular season play, Tampa Bay will call up Jeffrey Springs, a 9-4 year old with a 2.45 ERA per year.

Why Blue Jays Can Cover Spread

For starters, the Blue Jays boast one of the most prolific and dangerous attacks capable of leaving any team begging on their knees for mercy. While Toronto were undoubtedly late in their defeat in yesterday’s competition, this team could still put a crooked number on the scoreboard in the blink of an eye.

In order to cover the spread against their division rivals, the attacker who has the highest hitting rate in all of baseball and has also scored the fifth most runs in the league needs to get back into shape. In fact, it was a Blue Jays game just two games ago when they broke 18 on 21 massive strokes en route to a massive victory over the Phillies. When it’s an all-cylinder attack, there aren’t many teams in the sport that have the firepower to go toe-t0-toe.

Off the bat, Blue Jays will need to do their best to throw off the hill. That was certainly not the case in yesterday’s loss as the Blue Jays quickly slipped behind the eight ball and trailed Tampa Bay 9-3 in just four rounds played. Simply put, Toronto cannot replicate this performance if they hope to build their lead in the AL Wild Card.

With that being said, all eyes will be on right-winger Mitch White, who has struggled this season with just one win under his belt from a total of 16 starters this year. The Blue Jays are expecting more twirlers they got from Los Angeles during the trade deadline, as White is 0-4 with a 7.47 ERA in his six starts since becoming Blue Jay.

Why can rays cover the spread

Without a doubt, the Rays have been one of the most prolific teams in baseball when playing in front of their home fans. In general, Tampa Bay is between 50 and 28 years old at Tropicana Field. After another home win last night, the Rays joined the Astros and Yankees as the only three MLS teams to reach a half-century in MLS. At first glance, Rays will have a massive advantage in this division before throwing the first pitch of the ball game.

A repeat of last night’s performance would surely do wonders, too. Even though Tampa Bay was a downed squad with the bats, they came out with a big hit by producing nine runs in the first four rounds of play and never looked back after that. In fact, Tampa Bay’s top five hitters went in a combined lineup 11-23 (.478) that included eight runs and nine RBIs. Undoubtedly, it was a beautiful display of attack that Al Rayes would repeat again in order to reach even the Blue Jays.

Shooting arms are where Tampa Bay should have an advantage on Friday, with the Rays having the fourth lowest ERA in the majors at 3.37. With opposition bowler Mitch White on the hill, and left-wing Jeffrey Springs undergoing an impressive season that saw him go 3-0 with 0.89 ERA through the month of September, Rays could cover spreading for the second day in a row with his left arm Springs doing the dirty work of the hill.

Selection and final prediction of blue jays rice

The baseball world will have their eyes set on this epic match, as both teams want nothing more than to host a Wild Card game in front of their home fans at supplement time. However, Rays has a lot of advantages at Tropicana Field and in this swing match between White and Springs. Expect Tampa Bay to make its way with Toronto for the second game in a row as complete mayhem will officially follow in the frenetic Wild Card Race!

One last prediction from Blue Jays-Rays and their pick: -1.5 (+146)
