Athens, Ohio – The women’s basketball team (0-1, 0-0) will play its first road game tomorrow (Nov. 10) against Longwood (0-1, 0-0) in Farmsville, Va. The match is set for 7pm and will be on ESPN+. This non-conference matchup will be a tough battle between the Bobcats and Lancers, who are both looking for their first win of the non-conference season.

First time for everything
The NCAA matchup between the Ohio University Bobcats and the Longwood Lancers will be the first meeting between the two teams.

Searching for Lancers
Longwood finished its 2021-22 season with a 22-12 overall record and a 15-3 Big South Conference record. The Lancers went on a 10-game winning streak, including their conference championship victory over Campbell University, before falling to NC State 68-96 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The loss to NC State ended their 2021-22 season, but proved just how tough the program is. Since then, the Lancers have seen a change in their coaching staff with the introduction of new head coach Erika Long-Montgomery in April 2022. Head coach at Flagler College from 2009-2019 and an assistant coach with several Power 5 programs including Wisconsin, Southern California, Florida State and Purdue. Along with the addition of coach Erika, the Lancers return just seven starters for the 2022-23 season, welcoming one freshman and five transfers to the team. One returning starter, Anne Hamilton Leroy, led the team offensively, averaging 10.9 points per game, making 63 three-pointers in her Longwood career and scoring in double figures 31 times.

The start of the 2022-23 Lancers season
Before meeting the Ohio Bobcats, Longwood faced the University of Delaware (Nov. 7) in its season opener at home, 62-87. Junior guard Janay Turner led the Lancers with 17 points. 5 FG, 2 3PT and 5 FT. Redshirt junior Adriana Shipp led the team in rebounds with six total. 2 offensive and 4 defensive. Steph Davis had a total of 3 assists and Anya Brooke had 2 blocks. Overall the Lancers had 20 points in the paint, 10 second chance points, 6 fast break points, 9 turnovers and 34 bench points.

Ohio’s first game of the 2022-23 season
The Ohio State Women’s Basketball Team (0-1, 0-0) opened the 2022-23 season with a loss to the Long Island Sharks (1-0, 0-0) in Convo. Many of the Bobcats took the field for their first game in months due to injuries. Overall, Ohio was led by the offensive end Caitlin Krollwho got 15 points and four rebounds. Ohio was also led overall by the board Ella Pope And Yaya Felder, who each got 8 rebounds. Both Jaya McClure and Kayla Johnson It was double digits with 11 and 12 points.

Match notes
• Both teams are out of postseason contention, with Longwood reaching the NCAA Tournament and Ohio reaching the WNIT.
• The Longwood Lancers were seeded sixth in the Big South Conference while Ohio State was seeded seventh in the MAC.
