‘Operation 17th Annual: Hunger in the Rock’ will help feed food-insecure families this holiday season

The Food, Finance and Turkey campaign to take advantage of FeedMore WNY will run from November 15-22

The 17th annual “Process: Hunger in Rock” will bring together much-needed foodstuffs for needy western New York families this holiday season. From 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 97 Rock’s DJ Jickster will live on the FeedMore WNY trailer in the parking lot of Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital at 1540 Maple Road in Williamsville. DJ Jickster will raise money, non-perishable food, and frozen turkeys to benefit community members who depend on FeedMore WNY.

Motivation is a partnership between FeedMore WNY, 97 Rock, Kaleida Health and WKBW-TV Channel 7.

At the start of the event, Kaleida Health and its affiliates across the four-county FeedMore WNY service area collected food donations from October 10 to November 8.

“We are honored to be part of ‘Rock Out Hunger’ for the fifth year in a row,” said Don Boyd, President and CEO of Kaleida Health. “Over the past month, 26 locations across Kaleida Health and our affiliates across Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties have collected non-perishable food items to ramp up for ‘Rock Out Hunger,’ and dozens of our employees will volunteer for ‘Rock Out Hunger’. ‘next week. We realize that too many individuals and families struggle for essentials, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to support our community in this way. We look forward to another successful ‘Rock Out Hunger’ event that will truly impact many in our community.”

A press release noted that “approximately 165,000 people across the four-county FeedMore WNY service area are food insecure, meaning they lack continued access to enough nutritious food to lead a healthy life. Putting food on the table, the holiday season can be especially stressful.”

“Holidays should be a festive season for food, family and friends, but for many in WNY facing food insecurity, the holidays are tough,” said WKBW-TV 7 Vice President and General Manager Mark Jaromin. In addition to the set in “Operation: Rock Out Hunger,” food and money donations can be dropped from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, and 8 a.m. to noon most Saturdays at the FeedMore WNY Distribution Depot at 91 Holt Street, Buffalo.
