BBC creates seven assistant roles for commissioners
The BBC in the UK is creating seven positions of Assistant Commissioner to enhance its influence outside London and within under-represented groups in the capital. Five of the roles will be based in countries and territories – the term UK broadcasters use to refer to areas outside of London – with four aimed at actual content and one for children’s animation. The London-based roles will focus on deaf, disabled and/or bifurcated television talent, with one role in my script and the other unscripted. Since launching a strategy called Across the UK, the BBC has increased its London out-of-commissioning rank by seven, bringing its total to 24. The new roles are additional and bring that number to 31.
