The Pueblo international boxing event nominees show that Team USA doesn’t pull any punches

Some of the best boxers from around the world arrived in Colorado on Wednesday and will soon be donning their gloves to take on some of the best boxers from the United States.

U.S. world champions Rashida Ellis and Jamal Harvey will top the 22-man shortlist for the upcoming USA Boxing International Invitational Sept. 12-15 at the Pueblo Convention Center, according to a press release from USA Boxing.

The matches at the House of Champions represent the first international boxing event to be held in the United States since 2018 and the first international elite competition since the 2007 Elite Men’s World Championships in Chicago.

Team USA, led by head coach Billy Walsh, will see boxers test their skills against boxers from Azerbaijan, China, Germany, the Philippines and Puerto Rico as they seek to make an impression on the international scene as they work towards the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The event is free to the public and will take place over two sessions, one at 11am and one at 5pm, on Monday 12th September, until Wednesday 14th September, with preliminary matches taking place on Mondays and Tuesdays, with the semi-finals. Upcoming matches on Wednesday and championship matches Thursday, September 15th, starting at 11am. The fights will also be broadcast on USABoxing.org.

At the event, Team USA will seek to build on the recent momentum it built with strong appearances at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, the 2021 Men’s Elite World Championships, the 2022 Elite Women’s World Championships and the AMBC Elite Championships.

Team USA took home four Olympic medals – three silver and one bronze – in Tokyo, the most since the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.

The world-class international boxers that will compete in the pueblo include Olympic athletes, world champions, European champions, world championship medalists, and more.

The field of international fighters includes 2020 Olympian Muhammed Abdullahiev of Azerbaijan; two-time European Champion Stephanie von Berg and 2022 European Champion Nelvi Tiavak; two-time Olympic medalist Li Qian; world champions Wenlu Yang and China Lina Wang; World Championship Bronze Medal Winner Rogen Ladon; And the Asian Championships, two-medal winner Bakhodor Osmonov.

For Team USA women, six female fighters from the 2022 World Championships will bring to the ring, including Ellis, the 2022 AMBC Elite Championship gold medal winners Jajira Gonzalez and Jennifer Lozano; 2022 AMBC Elite Champions Bronze Medalist Amelia Moore; Muriel McCain and Shera May Patricio.

The women’s delegation to Team USA also includes 2018 Women’s Elite World Championship Team member Gazelle Bobadilla, 2022 AMBC Elite Bronze Medalist Kayla Gomez, and two first-time boxers for Team USA, Daisy Bamberger and Stephanie Simon.

For the men’s team, the 2021 World Elite Men’s Championship silver medalists Roscoe Hill and Amari Jones will join Harvey, as will their 2021 World Championship teammates Vircuan Lee and Jonathan Mansour.

Three boxers from the inaugural 2021 Pan American Games — gold medalists Julius Ballou and Quincy Williams as well as bronze medalist Donte Lane — will make their international debut at the Pueblo, while Richard Fernandez Jr. will represent Team USA for the first time since taking over. Junior Division days.
