Three men’s soccer players earn honors across the East – Providence College of Athletics

PROVIDENCE, RI –The BIG EAST Conference announced today (November 9) that three Providence College men’s soccer players have earned honors from All-BIG EAST. Junior striker Gevork Durban (Cranston, RI) The advocate for graduate students Ramzi Qawasmi (Lansdale, PA) Each received All-BIG EAST Second Team Awards. Graduate midfielder Christopher Roman (Glastenbury, Connecticut) was named to the third All-BIG EAST team.

Prior to the start of the season, Diarbian was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team. This is the third year in a row that Diarbian has received the BIG EAST Post-Season Awards. In the 2020-21 season, he was named to the third All-BIG EAST team and in the 2021 season, Diarbian received the All-BIG EAST Awards for the second team. He played a pivotal role for the brothers this season, starting all 17 games. Durban led the team in scoring with 13 points with four goals and five assists.

Qawasmi was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and was awarded the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team Honor before the start of the 2022 season. He has received BIG EAST Post-Season Recognition in each of the last three seasons. In the 2020-21 season, he was awarded the second All-BIG EAST Team, and after a historic run by the brothers in the 2021 season, Al-Qawasmi was awarded the All-BIG EAST First Team Awards. Al Qawasmi has played all 17 of the team’s matches this season. He installed the monk’s defense and was second in the team, scoring eight points with four goals.

This postseason award represents the first Romanian award during his time in Providence. Romain was a key player in the midfield having started each of 17 matches in the 2022 season. He scored 1508 minutes and scored three points with a goal and assist.

All teams and major prizes are voted on by the league’s coaches, who are not allowed to vote for players. The first and second teams from each of the Greater East are in their positions with nine players in the positions, a goalkeeper, and a collective vote. The third All-BIG EAST team consists of at least 11 bidders.
