UN panel calls ‘environmental washers’, seeks net-zero regulation
A group appointed by the United Nations has defined a series of tests that determine whether net zero pledges are real or “dishonest”.
The group of experts, appointed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and chaired by former Canadian Environment Minister Catherine McKenna, made recommendations “to prevent net zero from being undermined by false claims, ambiguity and “green ambiguity,” according to a report published Tuesday by a group of academics, government and business leaders. Chosen by the United Nations to explore the credibility of net zero pledges from non-state actors.
