New York, August 1, 2022 – WNBA FIT Month presented by Kaiser Permanente today, August 1 with a special focus on engaging players, partners, and community organizations to highlight the importance of living a healthy life through mind, body, and spirit.
Throughout the month of August, the WNBA will encourage the physical and mental well-being of fans of all ages through popular programming and events, radio and digital advertisements, and in arena and online programming. The WNBA will also work with experts to address health disparities with a focus on communities of color.
In addition, the league and its teams will help educate fans and support those with breast cancer through WNBA Breast Health Awareness August 17-30. WNBA Breast Health Awareness (BHA), the league’s longest-running platform, empowers women to proactively manage breast and ovarian cancer risks. It also highlights disparities in breast cancer incidence, care and outcomes.
As part of the BHA’s efforts, the WNBA and its teams will coordinate events and activities in the arena while promoting initiatives from community partners and organizations dedicated to cancer awareness and prevention, including the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and Bright Pink.
During the month of WNBA FIT, WNBA and Kaiser Permanente will host four grocery popups in partnership with Goodr, a certified B-Corp that uses technology and logistics to combat food waste and insecurity. Designed to provide healthy eating options for families facing food insecurity and HBCU students returning to campus, the popups will take place August 14 in Los Angeles, August 20 in Seattle, August 25 in Atlanta and August 30. In Washington, DC, each event will feed up to 250 families.
There will be five nationally dedicated televised games throughout the month of WNBA FIT that will include in-field activations, beginning Thursday, August 4, when Kia WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones and Connecticut Sun 2022 WNBA All-Star host Skylar Diggins-Smith and Phoenix take over. Mercury on ESPN2 (4 p.m. ET).
ABC will present double heads during the month of WNBA FIT. On Sunday, August 7, the Sun will visit WNBA Finalists MVP Kahleah Copper and Chicago Sky (1 p.m. ET), followed by 2020 Kia WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson and Las Vegas Aces with two-time WNBA Finals. Breanna Stewart and host Seattle Storm (3 p.m. ET).
The ABC double match will take place on the last day of the 2022 regular season, Sunday, August 14, highlighted by the regular season final matches of WNBA legends Sylvia Fowles and Sue Bird. In the first game, the Fowles will lead the Minnesota Links against the Sun in Connecticut (1 p.m. ET). In the second game, Altaïr and Storm will visit the Aces (3pm ET).
