Women’s basketball announces 2022 signing class – Boston College Athletics

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Head coach at Boston College Joanna Barnaby-McNamee And the coaching staff announced the 2022 signing class on Wednesday.

The Eagles bring in four signees, Ally Carman (Barengat, NJ), Ava McGee (Washington, DC), Taina “T” Mair (Boston, MA) and Kayla Lezama (Boston, MA). The coaching staff signed two in-state natives and picked up commitments from New Jersey and Washington while adding three guards and a center.

Ally has great size and strength inside. His athleticism, soft shooting touch and willingness to run the field add depth to our inside game. His height allows him to play with his back to the basket and be a rim protector, while his soft shooting touch and IQ allow him to be a playmaker when facing off. Having played for a top high school in Red Bank Catholic as well as a top level EYBL AAU organization in Philly Rise, he knows how to win. I foresee him being a strong presence on the court and becoming a dominant center for us.

Taina Meyer 5’9 | guard | Boston, MA | Brooks School

The state native has had a stellar high school career … He averaged at least 18 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals per game during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. 2018 has had. 19, he helped his team win the NEPSAC D title…Earned NESPAC First Team honors and was named to the NEPSAC Class D All-Star Game…Named to the Lakes and Kingswood All-Region First Team. Oxford Invitational All-Tournament Team … Recorded 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists per contest in 18-19 … The following season, led her team to the NEPSAC Class B Championship and the Ray Brown Holiday Tournament win. Taj … Averaged 18 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 assists earned NEPSAC Class B Player of the Year honors and All-First Team recognition in 2019-2020 … NEPSAC Class B and ISL All-Star Games … named to the Ray Brown Holiday All-Tournament Team as tournament MVP.

Tayna is a true point guard who likes to push the pace. She plays with a flare and moxie that exudes confidence. His outstanding vision on the court is complemented by his crafty pace and smooth shooting. His unselfish demeanor and skill set allow him to create for himself and his teammates. As a local player for the highly competitive Brooks School and AAU Mass Rivals, he has had the opportunity to compete and excel at a high level. He is proud to represent his home of Boston and take BC to new heights. I look forward to seeing him grow in our public class.

Ava McGee | 5’10 | guard | Washington DC mart school

A four-year letterwinner at Maret … Two-time first-team DC All-State in 2018-19 and 2019-20 … In 2018-19, he was named to the USA Today All-USA DC . Second Team … Made the ’18-19 Washington Post Honorable Mention List … He helped his team to the 2018-19 ISL A conference title … 2018-19 All-ISL A and All-ISL AA in 2019-20 … Played travel ball with Maryland’s Finest in 2018 and 19 and was on Bo Williams EYBL team in 2020 and 2021.

Ava excels in a fast system and is a versatile scorer. He has a college-ready body with the strength and athleticism to be a top player on both ends of the floor. His natural rebounding instincts and unselfish play are impressive. Excelling at Mart’s highest academic level and the Beau Williams EYBL AAU organization allowed him to shine at the highest level in the classroom and on the field. He is a competitor who is used to winning. I look forward to seeing him as a player and I expect him to be a great contributor.

Kayla Lezama 5’11 | guard | Boston, Massachusetts Noble and Greenough School

One of two in-state natives to commit to the Eagles … a four-year letterwinner at Noble and Greenough High School … team captain heading into the season … tallied 14 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists . in every game in 2018-19 … a 2018-19 Boston Globe All-Star … also an ISL All-Star and a Boston Herald Prep School All-Star in 18-19 … in 2019 did USA Basketball (16U) tryout … played for the Boston Lady Stars from 2014-2018 … represented the New England Crusaders in the EYBL circuit in 18-19 and Exodus NYC the following season … earned an academic award. In 2019-20 and 2020-21 … was the 2020-21 Black Student Union Leader … student body leader for Diversity Equity and Inclusion … also a four-year member of the Sister-2-Sister program

Kayla is a competitor with good length for the guard and solid 3-point range. Raised locally and playing at Noble and Greenough School, he has an excellent foundation of academic and athletic fundamentals to go along with his winning mindset. He is strong and athletic with the ability to hit threes, high pressure jump shots and finish at the basket. I look forward to seeing him as a player and expect him to contribute to the program.
